The Women in Matthews Genealogy
The Women in Matthew's Genealogy
Written by: Samantha Wichman
We’ve encountered so many characters in our reading of God’s Word this year, but this week I want to focus on four specific women: Rahab, Ruth, Tamar, and Bathsheba. Later in the year we will read through the book of Matthew, and in the first chapter of that book we’ll see the names of these four women featured in Jesus’ genealogy. Linked below is an article from The Gospel Coalition entitled, "5 Reasons Matthew Begins with a Genealogy." Written by Patrick Schreiner, this article discusses the importance of Matthew’s genealogy and specifically the importance of including Rahab, Ruth, Tamar, and Bathsheba in the family line up.
I invite you to take a few moments to read through the fantastic article and learn more about how all the books of the Bible, from the Old Testament to the New Testament, work together to tell the story of redemption through Jesus Christ.
